Knitting for Teens and Adults

Volunteer Doryne Levere will teach knitting to interested men and women ages 16 and up. All yarn and needles necessary will be provided, though people are welcome to donate, or bring their own. They use the local history area of the library for the best light.

Life, afterlife and spirituality

Job Gym

On the last Thursday of each month, from 1 to 4 pm, staff from the Job Gym will be at the Crystal Ridge branch of the library to assist the public with job searches, resume preparation, and other tasks and skills necessary to land a job. Drop-in, or call ahead at 905-871-3932 to set up an appointment. There is no charge for this service.

Trivia Time fundraiser

Have fun with friends, test your knowledge, support your library and enjoy great prizes, all at the same time with our annual Library Trivia Time. $15 per person, and room for 6 at a table. Be sure someone at your table registers the group! Ticket includes a piece of pizza and a beverage; you can buy penny auction tickets, 50-50 draw chances, bid on silent auction items and more. Doors open at 6 pm; contest begins at 6:30 pm.

Writers Group

Library staffer and published author Derek Clendening offers tips and advice to writers of all ages, teen through senior. He gives challenges and homework, too, to get you started. Bring your work; bring your questions. Free.

Group of Seven tour with Jim and Sue Waddington

Sue and Jim have been on a quest to locate the places that inspired the Group of Seven painters and Tom Thomson. They particularly like to search for sites that can only be reached by canoe and on foot. The talk will compare photographs of some of the hundreds of painting sites they have found with the corresponding artwork. They will discuss how they find the painting sites and what they have learned about the painters. In their talks Sue and Jim show their photographs alongside art from the beautiful La Cloche hills of Killarney Provincial Park, from Bon Echo Provincial Park, the Georgian Bay islands, the Yukon and Nunavut. Copies of their book…. In the Footsteps of the Group of Seven will be available for sale for $45 in cash or cheque (new soft cover edition May 2016)

Film: War Horse

For Remembrance Day, we will screen War Horse, the war drama based on Michael Morpurgo's book, directed by Steven Spielberg. Young Albert enlists to serve in World War I after his beloved horse is sold to the cavalry. Albert's hopeful journey takes him out of England and to the front lines as the war rages on. Jeremy Irvine, Emma Watson and David Thewlis star. There will be no charge for this presentation.
