COVID-19 Community Update for June 18, 2020 Bay Beach resident season passes Resident season pass holders can gain access to Bay Beach with a resident season pass starting Friday, June 26, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (weekdays) and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (weekends and holidays). A maximum of 2,000 people will be allowed entry to Bay Beach per day (with no exceptions) to ensure physical distancing measures can be practiced. The fee for obtaining a Bay Beach resident season pass has been waived for 2020. The resident season pass pick-up schedule will alternate back and forth between the Leisureplex (3 Municipal Centre Drive) and Crystal Ridge Arena (109 Ridge Rd S) until June 26. Passes will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. After June 26, passes will be available weekdays at the Leisureplex only from 10 a.m. to noon daily. To view the Resident Season Pass Pick-Up Schedule, go to: www.baybeach.forterie.ca Niagara Region entering Stage 2 The Premier of Ontario announced that the Niagara Region is moving forward into Stage 2 on Friday, June 19, at 12:01am. Stage 2 will allow more people to get back to work safely while not overburdening the critical services that support families, workers and Ontario’s economy. Businesses, organizations and public spaces permitted to open or increase service during Stage 2 are strongly recommended to review and implement workplace health and safety guidance available and easy-to-access at: Ontario.ca/covidsafety Water and tax bill update On Monday, June 15, a Staff Report (CS-10-2020) went to Council. The following measures were reviewed and approved by Town Council. Tax accounts with 2020 taxes not paid by June 30, 2020 will be charged penalties effective July 2, 2020. Water bills issued after June 30, 2020 will incur interest charges. Water account shut offs will resume July 29, 2020. Remaining 2020 tax due dates were both pushed back one month to July 31, 2020 and October 30, 2020 to provide additional assistance. Park washrooms still closed Outdoor washrooms in Fort Erie parks remain closed. Town staff are currently prepping the washrooms to open back up to the public later this month. On-street parking season passes for Bay Beach This summer, the Town is introducing a season pass for paid on-street parking at Bay Beach for the upcoming summer beach season. These passes will be available for $50 (taxes included). To purchase a pass, residents can access these passes by filling out the online form and paying by Mastercard/VISA. The form will give you an option for pick up or mailing the passes out. Spray pads reopening in Fort Erie On Friday, June 19, the Town of Fort Erie will be opening the spray pads at Bertie Centennial Park (Ferndale Park), Crystal Ridge Park and Stevensville Memorial Park. The multi-use water feature located at the Ridgeway Village Square will remain temporarily closed at this time due to technical issues but should be available soon. Spray pads are not monitored by Town Staff. Families who visit Fort Erie spray pads are being asked to follow all recommended health and safety guidelines such as physical distancing from others (2 meters / 6 feet) and staying home if they are feeling ill. Marriage licenses now available Marriage licenses are now being issued by the Town of Fort Erie (appointment only). Those interested in obtaining a marriage license can contact Town Hall at www.contactus.forterie.ca or 905-871-1600 to book an appointment. Town Hall remains closed to the public. N 0. 244 & 242. • in 1850, the son of Eilen Fellen Richard Ferguson was born in Waterloo Ferguson • He came to the village in 1890 and took over the store of William 12 ~iv '.Jr:-..,il 17. r J~· It was situated on the west of the street facing the Ferry Landing. He dealt in general merchandice, later adding a small addition to the north side where he sold china, wallpaper and paints.He was very active in realestate, and had large holdings on Erie St. near the Mill race. (later the site of the Peace Bridge) In 1884 he married a Miss Hanna Frances Elliot . They had three children Harry Francis: laura Pearl: and Allan Clarence. Mr. Ferguson's great lovewas horses, and he had a large stable behind the store and one on the foot of Bertie St. the north side.He had at times 14 horses. These he showed at fai~s, rode or just kept for the enjoyment of the family.In later years Mr. ferguson became quite bald, and around the village he would be .; seen wearing a wig. The villagers took to affectionately calling him 11Wig Ferguson. The store and the home just south of it was built by William Raisford Sr.in 1836.At one time Mr. ferguson had working for him as clerk in the store J.L. Kraft. To help his family who owned a Dairy farm on Kraft Rd. he took to work while only a young man. He moved to Buffalo and later Chicago where he founded the Kraft Cheese Comp. Another clerk in his employ was WM.J. hawley, who later took up a business in general merchandice just a few doors south from the Ferguson Store. In 1895 Mr. ferguson provided telephone service from his store, eight to eight, weekdays and two to four on Sundays.he continued as local telephone manager in the village till 1912 when he retired. He moved to his home on the site of the Mill Race:Erie ST. S.S. It was moved when the Peace bridge was built and Mr. ferguson who was then a widower moved across the st. to live with his daughter Pearl kee.
