GEORGES CHINESE RESTAURANT:::47 WALNUT ST. FORT ERIE.
WIILIAM GEE( GEORGE) worked as a waiter in Skippy's Paradice Grill
•
on Jarvis St. for a total of 6 years. His grandfather Chin Gian Wah worked
in the
kitchen. George leased the dinning room of the King Edward Hotel for
two summers.
1950;;;
George purchased a lot on Walnut st. opposite the Peace bridge and built
Georges Good Food Rest. When george died his grandfather took over then his
.neph:~ws.
In 1979: an addit ion
quarters.
1982; A One story
was made above the old Rest. to be used for living
modern addtion was added to the east side of the original
rest, a good distance back from the roadway to provide parking in front.
This went by the name of the JADE Rooom.
1994-1995;
The Peace Bridge Authority began it's plans for the construction of
a truck holding area on the Canadian side of the bridge to speed up
traffic.Eventually the remaing homes were sold on the foot of Walnut
and from Archang the street became one way , west from Niagara St.
They_ intended to rnake Walnut St. completely one way. With the building
of the new Peace Bridge Brokerage building on lwer Queen St. and'l!tli.e're routing of
the truck traffic off the bridge up Walnut, it made it almost impossible
for motorists to
reach the restaurant, eventually cutting off customers.
In Aug. of 1995 the P.B.A. finally purchased the Rest and it closed on
Aug. 16th. 1995.
