Mr. Boward Thompson was born in rreeswater, near Georgian Bay,

â€¢

Set. 27, 1890. He began teaching school at the age of 22.
In 1917 he came to Fort Erie, teaching at the Phipp St. School,
then moving to theWintemute Conti nuation School when it was built.
In 1925 he receive his Bachelor of Arts Degree frmn Queens,
and when the High School was completed in 1928, Mr. Thompson became
Principal and remained in that position till his retirement in 1951+.
Mr. Thompson was instrumental in having Brock University built in

the Niagara District and had promoted it in the area for a number of
years, by persona l contact and by wri tten reports. During his life
time he wrote many book.lets, such as : " A Half Century Of Education
in Fort Erei" : " The Golden Anniversary of the Central Ave. United
Church." : also having wrote a len~thy history of the Lion's Club.
Fir. Thompson was a Charter member of the Lions Club and entered
fully in all their activities, the Carnivals the Minstral .Shows and
he spesrheaded the Club's Sandfly I?emoval Project.

He was a member of the Central Ave. United Church. He married
Elizabeth Hesiox and had one son Ross â€¢
In 1955 he entered politics and was elected MayorÂ·Â·; ' serving one
year. Along w:i':th E. w-~ ~ryrrill he worked to have the County build
the Central Ave Bridge, and was able to see its completion.

In 1961 Mr. Thompson was elected Superintendant of the Bertie
High SchooJ. Board.
After a lengthy illness Mr. 'rhompson died May 1972 a.nd was
buried i n Pleasant View Memorial G~u-,deng;, -- ,Nia.gara Falls Ont â€¢
