Attached to the rear of the grow1d floor was the village lock up, and t he
front section housed the hose cart. Large doors fronting on Central, made
quick access to the street when the fire alarm was sounded . This was done
wi th the use of the town bell in tr..e tower.The nearest team, two hudge
white horses ovmed by Ernest Benner were kept only a short distance aâ€¢.,,vay
on Dufferin St. He was pais $10.00 each time his team was used t o pull
the fire apparatus .

but the Conc il thought by eliminating some of t he essentials , such as a c lock
tower, and vlith the lower cost of labour ' it was decided enough money could be

ahead with the proj:::ct. The architect was to be Charles M. Barter

of Niagara Fall s.
I n 1922 a special meeting of L1e Bridgeburg Council was called to

d~scuss

the plans, as several of the membe.::-s were holding out far a second floor. This
they has planned to use as an asse:.Cibl y hall. However, after discussion '...-ith the
architect,
it was decided to go ahead with the origina l design.This consisted
_,
of a raised basement , and one upper f l oor. Room was provi de for the Chc.:-:lberand
other Munici pal office; the librar; : and the Fire Dept . which actually stood
on it's old site fronting Central . The Police Station and Jail were hoc.sed in
the basement. Work was begone in :C9 22 and completed in 1923 .
On May 25, 1929, Bridgeburg dedicated it's Great War Memorial on the grounds
of the MUnicipal building. This mor:ur.1ent was moved to Mather Arch Oct . 1971.
The Town Hall had a $45,000 renov:::.tion in Oct. 19 87 ,and at that time i':. was
