William Charles Tait, son of George and Nellie Batters Tait
was born Aug.,lst., 1882 and died Nov. 12th., 1959.
He attended public and continuation schools in Bridgeburg and High
School in Welland. After graduation he taught school in Stevensville
during ~he year 1901.
In 1902 he was employeed in the wholesale coal business in Buffalo
N.Y., and worked there for twenty-six years. In 1928 he returned to
Bridgeburg and started his own coal business under the name" Tait Coal
Company".
In 1928 he served as Water Commissioner fqr Bridgeburg. In 1929
he was appointed Town Clerk and Treasurer, and held that position in
1930. He was Justice of the Peace, Chairman_of the Douglas Memorial
Rosr.iital Board:. also a -r:e'.:tber of the Board of Education: the I.O.O.F.

and the Lions Club; bein~ electe~ ~~Â·
president in 1927_ &amp; 1928.

He was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Church, as served as
Elder: Trustee: and Clerk of Session; and was Superintendant of the
Knox Presbyterian Sunday School.
He married Mary Edith Shaw, od Cleveland Ohio, Oct.31,1906: and

He died Nov. 12â€¢ 1959 â€¢

Wm. Tait son of' George Tait was born August 1st. 1882.
His mother was the J'cirmer nellie :Batters. Born in Fort Erie , he
went to local Public Schools, and to Welland High. After graduation,
he taught in the Stevensville scha8l the year 1901 .
He then went to work in the UB.A. at Buffalo N.Y. with several
firms in the coal business; where he learned the business and
remained for 26 years. He returned to Fort Erie in 1928 and went
into the coal business here , 1nder the name af Tait.
William Tait married Edith Shaw on Oct. 3ist. 1906. They had
two children Murial Edith, and George William .
Mr. Tait was Town clerk for many years while in the coa1
business and afterwards.
George 'William Tait married while young to a l'rench t!anadian girl
by the name of Terry____ â€¢â€¢ They had a son Billie, who on the death

of his father when only in his early 30' s ; returned to
his mother.

CHARLIE TAIT::: was the son of George Ta. rt Sr. He married into
the Boag family, and lived in a large frame house on tlee S.w. corner
of Murray and battery. Mr. &amp; Mrs. ~harlie Ta\T had one son Charlie.
George Tait Sr. worked in the Insurance busines in bridgeburg, an
for many years was secretary of the School board.
