Upon arrival he started business with a small grocery store in the Allan Block on the north side of Jarvis St. It had been used by L.T. Wector as an ice cream store, and had a slaughter house in the rear. Two years later he built a store and dwelling on the north side of Dufferin St.on thte west Cr . of Klauck. He carried on buainess here for years. In 1891 he had gone into the undertaking business, and in 1895 the furniture business. In 1939 a large barn owned by Mr. Atwood on lower Dufferin St. was destroyed by fire. It contained considerable old furniture and two cars, which were all destroyed.Also lost in the fire was a building owned by the school trustee, George Grigsby. Another building also holding furniture , south of the first barn was saved. For a time the Atwood morgue was also in danger. In Oct'. 1939 another fire destroyed a storage building, once a store and dwelling for John H. Atwood destoyed the building, however the Morgue was saved. In 1928 Mr. Atwood built a·store on Jarvis • St~ and in 193i a home on Witnemute St . 1927. John H.
