Restrictions on Fort Erie outdoor spaces
FORT ERIE (May 19, 2020) As the Niagara Region cautiously moves forward to
recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, some restrictions are being lifted while others
are staying in place in the Town of Fort Erie.
Boat ramps were opened as of this past weekend for public use.
Anyone who chooses to use the boat ramps should be sure to follow the best practices
to limit the spread of COVID-19 as outlined by Niagara Region Public Health. These
include frequent washing/sanitization of hands, physical separation, avoiding touching
of shared surfaces and staying home if displaying symptoms or having been in contact
with cases of the virus.
Organized sports are still restricted on municipal fields, given their necessity for
gathering of groups. Parks are open for passive use only. Playgrounds and their
equipment, benches, washrooms, sport courts, and beaches remain closed at this time.
We ask the public to continue being patient as staff work on plans to safely reopen park
amenities and beaches for active use.
The opening of outdoor spaces in Fort Erie aligns with the announcements made from
the Province of Ontario. On May 14, the Province announced that certain outdoor
amenities, such as golf courses and marinas, opened on May 16.
Regional and municipal governments continue ongoing work to map Niagara’s path
forward as the Province enters through its first phase of recovery with reopening several
non-essential business categories like retail operations and all construction projects.
