(Doug) Smith, 57 Conway Place, Crystal Beach, died at Douglas Memorial Hospital on Oct. 31, 1983. Born in Buffalo, N.Y. Feb. 23, 1919 he was employed as a freight brakeman and conductor by Conrail for 30 years. He was a member of United Transportation Union No. 1339 Buffalo, was a Sergeant in the American Air Force from 1939-44 spending 32 years overseas and was a former member of the National Guard in Buffalo. .Mr. Smith was a lifelong resident of Crystal Beach. He is survived by his wife, Miriam (Babcock); two daughters, Joan (Mrs. Ronald Horton) and Margaret (Mrs. Herbert Maracle) both of Crystal Beach; two grandsons, Ronald Douglas and Andrew Scott Horton. Also surviving is his uncle Dan Hitch of St. Thomas. The Rev. John Parker officiated funeral services Thursday, Nov. 3 in the chapel of The Williams Funeral Home, Ridgeway. The interment was in Ridgeway Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Smith, Wayne Bramburger, Leslie Pinsonneault, Robert P. Babcock, Donald W. Babcock and Brian B.
