MICHAEL CHARLES YANDO Michael Charles Yando, of 168 Aberdeen Crt., Fort Erie died at Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto Oct. 24, 1985. Born in Fort Erie Jan. 7, 1962 he was a student at Niagara College. A lifelong resident here he was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Yando was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3320 and past Chief Squire of the Columbia Squires. He was a graduate of Notre Dame College and undergraduate at Niagara College. Surviving are his parents, Charles and Emily Yando of Fort Erie. He was the cherished grandson of George Yando of Fort Erie and Mr. and Mrs. Isador Seitz of Delhi: the dearly beloved uncle of Kathryn and Michael Bouchard and dearest friend of Roseanne Benner Also surviving are his sisters. Alfred Harland Yarrow of Ridgeway died Sept. 5, 1991 at St. Catharines General Hospital. Born Feb. 26, 1927 in Fort Erie, he worked as an electronics technician at Crystal Beach Co. for 19 years and lived all his life in the area. Statement from Niagara’s 12 Mayors and Regional Chair on moving to Stage 2 Niagara’s 12 Mayors and Regional Chair offered the following statement regarding the announcement of the region moving into phase 2: “This afternoon the Premier of Ontario announced that Niagara would be moving to Stage 2 as of this Friday at 12:01 a.m. This means many businesses and public facilities may begin to reopen, but incorporating measures to prevent the spread of infection. This announcement means that COVID-19 in Niagara has been slowed to the point where some normal activities may resume, with the assurance that we continue to take steps to limit the spread of the virus. The decision to move Niagara into Stage 2 was made by the province based on local data around COVID-19, and included a consultation with our Medical Officer of Health. FORT ERIE (June 9, 2020) In order to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Fort Erie, Bay Beach (also known as Crystal Beach) will remain closed to anyone without a Fort Erie resident season pass. “The decision to keep Bay Beach closed to visitors was a tough one but we believe that it was the right choice for Fort Erie. We are a small town with limited resources. It’s important that we put the proper restrictions in place to ensure we can manage the beach according to the new health and safety guidelines put forth by the Province. We will happily welcome back our visitors as soon as we feel it's safe for everyone to enjoy,” said Tom Kuchyt, Chief Administrative Officer. Resident season passes for Bay Beach are being offered to Fort Erie residents, Fort Erie taxpayers and Fort Erie short-term rental operators with proof of address such as a driver's license, passport, tax bill or any bill that shows the person’s name and address. The fee for obtaining a Bay Beach resident season pass has been waived for 2020. Passes and day passes will not be available on-site (at Bay Beach) for health and safety reasons. FORT ERIE (May 22, 2020) The Town of Fort Erie is currently working through the development and implementation of a recovery plan to guide the municipality through the process of recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Province has provided information and expanded frameworks for reopening Ontario after COVID-19. The easing of public health measures related to COVID-19 restrictions will be phased in over time and will vary by sector.
