Born in Surhuisterveen, Friesland, Holland on July 11. in 1922, Mrs. van der Sluis was the last of eleven children born to the Schuilenga family and moved to Canada in 1949. She had a great love of nature and gardening and was a member of Drummond Hill Presbyterian Church. He was a devoted husband of 65 years and a loving father to Henry (Carol), John (deceased), Lisa (Steve Duckhart), and Peter (Sandra). He was also a fun loving grandfather to Jason, Julia, Jonathan and Chelsea and Sarah. Born February 15,1923 in the Netherlands, he volunteered to go into American forces in the Marines, trained in the Carolinas and did a tour in Asia. He immigrated to Canada in the early 50's, worked for Metropolitan Life, and then at General Motors, where he retired. He was always full of adventures and loved life and his family. He will be missed by all that knew him. At his request cremation has taken place and we will have a service at a later time when all his children and grandchildren and relatives can be present. Born in Holland on June 8, 1952, Mrs. Vanderwaal had lived in this municipality since 1952. She was a member of the Central Avenue United Church and the Central Avenue United Church Women's Group, Unit 5. Mrs. Vanderwall is survived by her mother, Mrs. Adriana Vanherwynen, Holland; her husband, Paul Vanderwaal, Fort Erie; two sons, Joe (Marie), St. Catharines, and Frank, of Fort Erie; two brothers, Jaac and Jan, both of Holland; and three grandchildren, Sonja, Alan and Tanya.
