Benjamin Hardison was born in Berwick Maine in 1758, and was burried
in St. Paul ' s fem etery Fort Erie in 1823.
He served as a private i n Col . Phinney ' s Reg. of Mass. troops ,
during the American Revolution . He was ta.ken :prisoner while fight ing
with the f orces of Montgomery, at Quebec . He was kept prisoner for
two years till the close of the war; and liked Canada so much, that
after the fighting he settled in Waterloo(Fort Erie) in 179?.
It ws during the war of 1812-14 th.t,t he was suspected of siding wi.th
the Americans; later arrested 'and forced to join the Militia on the
side of the British.

Benjamin Hardison married Mary JÂ·ane Warren , the first white child
to be born at the Fort Erie post. She was the daughter of Col. John
Warren, the f irst Ass. Commissary of the Fort. They had eight children
and to house them,Benjamin had a large brick home built on the river
fron t in the village. early 1800's. It stood on_ the N.W. er. of Queen
St. and the river road. He be.came an active business _. man , and
prosper ed so much that a t the time of his death he owned eight farms
in the area leaving one td each of his chi l dren.
Benj,min also had an interest in the Grist Mill that stood on the
riverfront near hi s home, before it was taken over by Col. Kerby.
