On an old mB.p early 1800's William smith's home is marked
just south of the creek by ST. Paul 1 s Anglican Church.
This old brick home stood on the hill overlooking the Niagara River
until 1979 when it was removed. It has been known historically as the
home of the Reeve of Fort Erie in the 60 1 s P. Kempson. tÂ·Â·Â·to
This property went from the Crown to John Warren 1796.

There is no mention of this house , next to the church on an 1858
("map of the village. ~:here v:ras indeed a large two story flame h'Ouse
the t stood on the hill just south of t 11.e small stream that runs by
the south side of st. Pauls G:1~irch. Perhaps when Peter T. KemiJso:r.
got the pro})erty, she built a new home for her and her tluÂ·ee
sp:Ln,ster daughters. It was a much later style then Peters house

At the ti me of Fort Erie's Centennial an article came out
sayi n g that the ye llow brick house on t he west side of Concession
was the Srni th home. If he aquired his propert y j_n 1821, which
is verified by t he regt. r s cords this could no t be tnue; for this
house was not built till 1870. It is certain hovrnver that his grandson John Shaw lived here, for it was he who sold it to Thomas Bovm in
1888. The continuation of Henrietta fr om the west of Concession ,
L=Â· named Smith .S treet after t he fam:'._ly. ( no. 36 concrnssion S t)

'rhe logical plac e for the Smith home is that on the river front
which was kn own for many years as the Kempson h ouse. It is marked

on an early 1800 ma.p as being the Srni th h ome. Also in 1853 this home
and the property nearby was left in trust for Peter T; "iempson M.D .
