Jarvis a lavJYer from Toronto aquired the farm by the Canadian end of the International Bridge, and when laying out the lots for the village he gave the lands t.11.e name"VICTORIA". l3uilt here were two railway stations: the Grand trunk called Victoria and the Canadian Southern that went by the name of Fort Erie. The villagers prefered t.he name of Riverton for the village however it was never accepted.
