.In Â·1 897 Mr. White left the position of CustGms vff_ieer , and went intQ
the Butcher Business,on tarvis St. He rented the ~tore of Seotty Jackson,
on the South side of the Street. In 1910 he moved across the street and
built a new store, a home and a large barn ; lmost completely from the
lumber he obtained from the ol-d Un1on s-idewheeler , that served as a 'Ferry
on the river , for so many years 'b efore the . turn df the ee:mtury~ ~e was
to remain in the business ,until the time of his death in Oet. of 1929.
: fhe building was used for many years by the I.O.D.E. as a salvage shop,
with Mrs. tawson in eharge. 1n the middle 40's, the property w s sold,
and in i tts plaee were built , _a itestaurant, and Bank; the M a r~ne !:tÂµst.
RICHARD WHITE::: Mr. White eame _to t{le district in 1894 , as a
Vu.atoms Officer. He was born 0n the ~ersey Island in 1852,_and
burried. at St.Pauls Fort Erie Oct. 17th., 1929. ae oame to Cane.a.a
at the age of .seventeen, and ~et himself' up in business in '!oronto.
He was a c.o ntractor and Real .l!istate dealer there fGr many years.
In .1 897 he left his position onthe ' CU.stoms and went into the Butcher
business. He met his future wife while living in Toronto, and they
were marri~_d in 1876. They had tnree boys, and 1':Â·o'i.r t"' girls:::
