Construction of this large tree story hotel in the heart of the old village just opposite the Ferry landing was begun in 1904, by Ed Ramey.The Brothers Ed, & Sam whom had originally came from Portcolborne moved to Cleveland where they got work as street car conductors.They both decided to go into the Hotel business. Sam moved to Fort Erie around the turn of the Century and purchased the Cottage Hotel from a Mr. Spain. Ed. bought the Welland House in Welland and alos operated a hotle in Ridgeway known as the queens.Sam moved into the hotel business in Buffalo and Ed took over the Cottage Hotel. In 1904 he had this little place of business moved back for the front of the lot and began his new hotel.When it opened in 1905 it was one of the finest hotels from here to the falls.
