86 Years Young
One of Fort Erie's grand old
ladies, Miss Jennie Willson, on Friday, December 23, celebrated her
84th birthday, at the home of her
brother, Mr. W. F. Willson, 28 Princess street. Although bedridden for
the past eight months and constantly attended by a nurse, Miss Willson celeb1Â·ated the occasion of another milestone in an eventful life
very happily. In fact her good cheer
and brightness amazes her many
friends.
Many ealled to see Miss Willson
during the day, and her room was
a veritable bower of flowers, the
gift of many friends. Specially attractive was a huge basket of flowers from St. Andrew's Ladies' Aid,
of which she was president for nine
years.
Miss Willson, an able organizer,
was responsible for the organization of the Order of Eastern Star,
the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and
t!.e Women's Liberal Association in
Fort Erie. Blessed with executive
ability in no small degree, she ha~
been very active in numerous orq1izations, all of which remember~~i her with gifts on this occasion

LADY PASSES ON
Founder of Order of Eastern
Star in Fort Erie, was active in politics and church
work.
One of Fort Erie's best-loved
ladies, Miss Jennie P. Willson, died
on Monday, at the home of her
brother, W. F. Willson, 28 Princess
street, after a lingering illness. On
December 23rd last Miss Willson
had celebrated her 84th birthday,
surrounded by her friends in a room
full of lovely flowers sent to mark
the occasion. Bedridden for the past
nine months, Miss Willson retained
her cheerful disposition till the last.
Miss Willson was born in Thorold township in 1854, a daughter
of the late Robert and Martha Willson. The site on which she was born
is now a part of the city of Welland. She came to Fort Erie about
40 years ago, having taught school
for a number of years. She is survived by her brother, W. F. Willson, with whom she made her home.

Miss Willson was extremely energetic and was an organizer of no
mean ability. She organized the
Riverside Chapter, Order of Eastern
Star, on February 18, 1920, and
was the first worthy matron. She
also organized the Queen Esther
Shrine, No. 9, on November 21,
1921, and was high priestess for 18
months. She held other high offices
in the shrine, including that of district deputy grand matron in 1925.
She was a life member of the
Riverside Chapter and Queen Esther
Shrine, and was an honorary member of Hamilton Shrine No. 6, Welland Chapter, No. 47, Rosedale
Chapter, No. 131, St. Thomas
Shrine, No. 8, and Carillon Chapter,
Ridgeway.
Miss Willson served for nine
years as president of St. Andrew's
Ladies' Aid, resigning in 1923, but
retaining a very active interest in
the organization.
She was an ardent supporter of
the Liberal party and was the first
president of the Fort Erie Women's
Liberal Association, and vice-president of the Welland County Association. She was a life member of the
Ontario Women's Liberal Association, and honorary president of two
other: Liberal groups.
Miss Willson was a charter member of Col. Kerby Chapter, I.O.
D.E., and was also a member of the
Douglas Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, from its inception. This record
of her activities expresses better
than words how much she will be
missed in the community.
Funeral services, conducted by
her minister, Rev. Hugh F. Davidson, of Knox Presbyterian Church,
were held on Wednesday afternoon
from the home 'Of Mr. Willson. Pallbearers were Charles B. Willson, of
Toronto; Arthur Willson, Welland;
Ray F. Willson, Harold E. Willson
and Carleton I. Willson, all of Fort
Erie, and W. H. Sherk, of Ridgeway. Interment was made in the
Ridge mausoleum, Garrison. road.
