1. General Policy Statement
1.01 As the Fort Erie Public Library owns and operates 3D printers, it is desirable to allow a degree of public access to this equipment, either as a direct use or with Library staff assistance.
1.02 3D printing of working weapons or obscene objects are prohibited.
1.03 The Fort Erie Public Library reserves the right to restrict or terminate use of the 3D printer if a staff member deems the patron to be using the device in a way which contravenes this policy.
1.04 The Fort Erie Public Library is not responsible for intellectual property violations made by patrons using the 3D printer.
2. Patron 3D Printing
2.01 In order for a patron to use the 3D printer directly, they must have attended a certification session conducted by the Fort Erie Public Library. Upon completion of the certification session, the patron’s Library Card and patron record will be updated to allow for direct access to the 3D printer. The Fort Erie Public Library takes no responsibility for any damage to a patron’s data or media while using the Library’s 3D printer.
2.02 Access for use of the 3D printer will be on a first come-first serve basis.
2.03 The Fort Erie Public Library certification is non-transferable and applies only to the patron who attended the certification program.
2.04 The Fort Erie Public Library will supply all materials and tools needed during the printing process.
2.05 Patrons are prohibited from attempting to fix or alter the machine in any way. Patrons must ask for assistance from Library Staff to troubleshoot the printer if problems occur.
3. Staff Assisted 3D Printing
3.01 Patrons who are not certified by the Fort Erie Public Library to use the 3D printer and wish to obtain a 3D printed item may submit a compatible file on a USB drive to Library Staff for printing.
3.02 The Fort Erie Public Library may take up to two weeks to complete a 3D printing project submitted by a patron to Library Staff.
4. 3D Printing Registration and Fees
4.01 Patrons who are Fort Erie Public Library certified to use the 3D are required to register at the Service Desk before they can access the 3D printer.
4.02 A fee of $2.00 per 3D printed item is payable before a printing project begins.
4.03 Once completed, 3D printed objects will be charged at 10 cents per gram payable once the 3D printed item is completed.
