Do you have a modest income and a simple tax situation? You may qualify for free tax help from a trained volunteer.
Who Qualifies?
The Canada Revenue Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) helps individuals and households with modest income.
Income guidelines
The table belows shows the maxium household income based on family size:

|---|---|
| 1 person | $40,000 |
| 2 people | $55,000 |
| 3 people | $60,000 |
| 4 people | $65,000 |
| 5 people | $70,000 |
Simple tax situations
You qualify if you do not have:
- Rental income
- Self-employment income
- Capital gains or losses
- Bankruptcy
- Any other tax situation considered complex by the CRA
If you're unsure whether you qualify, library staff can help you before booking an appointment.
What to Bring
To help our volunteers complete your tax return, please bring:
- Proof of property taxes paid or total rent paid for the previous year
- Your Notice of Assessment from the previous tax year
- All relevant tax slips (such as T4, T4A, T4R, and Ontario Works paperwork, if applicable)
- Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
How to Book
If you're eligible, starting February 2, 2026, you can book an appointment in one of two ways:
A library staff member will ask a few short questions to confirm your eligibility and then book your appointment.
