Policy
System Wide Emergency Closures
- The decision to close the Library on a system-wide basis is the responsibility of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in consultation with the Board Chair, the Vice-Chair, or a Board Member, in that order.
- Factors to be considered regarding inclement weather include the forecast of the weather for the rest of the day, road conditions, school and public transportation status, and the status of Town departments and other public sector institutions.
Local Branches
- When emergencies occur at the local branch level, staff on duty may initiate the request for consideration to close the individual branch. The staff member in charge of the branch should contact the CEO, Board Chair, Vice Chair or a Board Member, in that order.
- In the event of a prolonged closure (longer than one day), the CEO will inform the appropriate Town Council member and provide updates as necessary.
Procedures
Emergency situations (e.g., fire, alarm activation after hours)
- First Contact: The CEO
- Second Contact: Chair of the Board
Non-emergency after hour situations
- The same order of contact may be employed. However, local staff may then be contacted to address and/or assess the situation.
